Houses and commercial buildings aren’t the only structures that benefit from gutters. Outbuildings like garages and sheds also need the protection that gutters offer. Just like homes, retail stores, warehouses, schools, hospitals and more, smaller outbuildings are susceptible to water damage.
When these structures lack gutters, water runs straight off the roof, causing a host of issues:
- If it is windy, that runoff water may be blown onto the sides of the outbuilding. The continual harsh exposure can decrease the building’s lifespan.
- The constant barrage of water can rot the facia and siding.
- Dripping or fast flowing water can seep through the walls to the interior of the building, or work its way through the foundation. The result can be flooding, mold, mildew and structural deterioration.
- The water can flow from the roof directly to the ground below eroding soil, damaging landscaping, or pooling up creating the perfect environment for slip and fall accidents.
You’ve invested in your sheds, garages and other outbuildings. Prolong their life and protect them and the surrounding area by installing a gutter system to collect and divert water to an appropriate location.

Gutter Installation on a Dog Kennel
Installing gutters – and the correct size gutters – on an outbuilding where there is constant traffic flow is especially important. The owners of a dog kennel in the Bergen County town of Norwood, contacted us because they were experiencing water issues with regard to the building. This was a significant problem because they are charged with caring for many a furry friend. These animals spend time both inside and outside of the kennel. It is important that the kennel’s interior is a safe, dry space, free of mold and mildew. Outdoors, the pets need a safe place to play. A very wet surface or pools of water can cause an animal to slip or twist as it is running.
Given the pitch and straight expanse of the roof, we determined that a larger size gutter would better handle the water flow. After measuring the runs, we cut the gutters right on site then our experienced installers attached them to the kennel.
Now, the kennel’s owners can have peace of mind knowing the animals in their care are better protected from the elements.
